IRVINE, Calif. ? September 18, 2007 ? Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. reported a break in at one of their centres for the award winning online game World of Warcraft? in Europe. Although the scene is the centre of a police investigation, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. realises there are many thousands of customers who wish to know details, and whilst some are unknown, initial analysis of security footage reveals the following:

At around 11:00 local time the datacentre known to players as the battlegroup "Blackout", located approximately 60 kilometers East of Paris, was hit by a coordinated Denial of Service attack, causing several World of Warcraft? servers to be restarted. A specialist was immediately called in to help handle the situation, however as his car passed through the security gate several assailants overwhelmed the guard on duty and the consultant. It appears that the alarm was triggered by the security team watching the CCTV at the centre as soon as this occurred.

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. had taken all appropriate measures to ensure the security of the centre, and questions of sabotage have been raised, as the gang moved swiftly into the building, and began destroying equipment, targeting only those machines that are involved with the storage of online data. Initial reports suggest that all hard drives were taken by the gang, as well as the vault used to store backups forced open and the contents removed. The gang left minutes before the police arrived.

At this time Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. and would like to thank the French police for their help and ask any witnesses to come forward.

Since both the live copies, the immediate and weekly backups were all taken, Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. has no record of any characters that were on these servers at the time of the incident. A spokesman expressed regret that he saw there was "no chance" of any data recovery.

The spokesman offered no explanation for the motive of the attack.
