The Bats is een invloedrijke Nieuw-Zeelandse rockband die in 1982 in Christchurch werd opgericht door Paul Kean (bas), Malcolm Grant (drums), Robert Scott (leadzang, ritmegitaar, keyboards) en Kaye Woodward (leadgitaar, zang). Hoewel het in de eerste plaats een Christchurch-band is, hebben The Bats sterke banden met Dunedin en worden ze meestal gegroepeerd met de Dunedin-geluidsmuzikanten die in de vroege jaren 1980 opkwamen.
