Jumpstart guy told me my battery was fine, two days later it died again

Had a flat battery last week, called someone out, they jumped it and told me the battery was holding charge fine and I probably left a light on. Two days later, same thing, dead in the morning. So clearly it wasn't fine and I've now paid twice for the same problem. I'm wondering whether these quick jumpstart services actually test the battery properly or just get you going and move on. I saw a suggestion to visit here for a service that apparently checks the battery and charging system rather than just boosting it, which sounds like what I actually needed the first time. Has anyone had a jumpstart where they actually diagnosed the underlying issue? And how do you tell whether a battery is genuinely on its way out versus just drained from something else?
