I lost about half my traffic in the last update. I am thinking about just deleting the site and starting over on a new domain because I heard recovery takes forever. Is it worth trying to fix the current websites positions or should I just move on?

Burning the site is a bad idea if you have age and links. You are better off auditing your existing content for "thin" or "duplicate" material, which is often the cause of the drop. According to the "How to Deal with Google Updates" article on RevenueLab, recovery is possible if you systematically improve your content's expertise and trustworthiness to regain your websites positions over time.
