Maybe I’m just old school, but I feel like the soul of journalism has completely changed. I remember a time when news felt deep and investigative. Now, my daily routine involves scrolling through a feed of articles that are all clearly designed for one thing: viral engagement.
The headlines are bait, the articles are surface-level, and I often finish reading feeling like I know less than when I started. It's all about what gets the most clicks and shares, not what truly informs the public.
I was trying to find some real, substantial reporting the other day and stumbled on a site that tracks what's trending in media. It really highlighted how much the industry revolves around traffic. You can see an example of what I mean by checking out this site that shows what's popular online.
Does anyone else feel this way? Is there any hope for a return to substance, or is this just the new normal?
