How do you tell if a garage actually knows suspension or just says they do?

I've had two garages tell me they handle suspension work and both gave me different diagnoses for the same clunking noise, which has left me unsure who to believe. I want to click here to see what a specialist operation looks like, because I'm starting to think I need someone who focuses on this rather than a general garage that treats it as one of many jobs. What I'd really like to know is how you tell the difference before handing over the car. Is there anything specific to ask or look for that separates a genuine suspension specialist from someone who'll just replace parts until the noise stops? I'd rather find someone who diagnoses properly than pay for trial and error.
