Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice or recommendations. My adult son (he’s 27) has developmental disabilities, and while he’s very sweet, we’ve been having ongoing challenges with certain behaviors. I’ve read about positive behavior support for adults with developmental disabilities, but I’m not sure where to find reliable programs in NYC that actually work. Has anyone found services that helped improve everyday functioning without being too clinical?

Yes — I’ve been in your shoes. We started working with Gateway Counseling Center a year ago, and it’s made a noticeable difference. Their positive behavior support for adults with developmental disabilities is part of their Community Habilitation program, which focuses on building daily life skills while addressing behavioral needs in a supportive and individualized way. The staff work directly in the person’s home and community, which really helped my brother stay comfortable and open to change.
