Are the major swimwear brands sexist ?

Do theypromote the double standard ?



Major swimwear brands are : speedo, arena, tyr. And also : funky/funkita, turbo, etc.


Since a few years, major swimwear brands offer several bum coverage levels for women swimwear :

- full coverage

- classic coverage

- cheeky

- ultra cheeky (barely bum coverage)

But major brands offer to choose bum coverage only for women.

For men, there is muchless choice : it is only full coverage. I believe they are friend with Henry ford : “Any cheeky coverage for men so long as it is full coverage”.



On the first hand, you can say that there is no issue, it is the classical double standard, it only reflects our societies, it is the market, bla-bla...


Yes... but NO.

Nowadays, it is obvious that by offering sexy swimwear only for women, major brands :

- contribute to promove hypersexualization of female bodies ;

- contribute to shame male body ;
- contribute to double standard ;


However, this business strategy is no longer in line with society.

Younger generations expect gender equality. Younger women generations do not want to be seen as only sex objects. It is the #metoo time.



In this context, I am surprised that major brands continue their old business strategy that is to say to sell sexy swimwear for women, whereas they risk being accused of sexism.



Of course, major brands won't stop to buy sexy swimwear for women because there is demand, there is a market.

But, if major brands sold sexy swimwear also for men, they would be on the actual vibe of gender equality.



Some would say that there is not enough demand to make it profitable to sell sexy swimwear for men. I don't agree with this argument.

Of course, for cheeky swimwear, men market is (actually) lower than women market. But, this market exists (we exist).

Create cheeky swimwear models is not a problem and is not expensive for a major brand which have internal skills for that. Costs production are the same if it is a full brief or a cheeky brief. Only logistics costs are differents. Of course, it is almost impossible to sell sexy swimwear in a real store (too many unsold items because the buyers are too sprinkled), but major brands could sell them in their online store (or online retailers) which is not expensive (because it is the buyer who pay the delivery cost), and this method limit the risk of unsold items.



So, there is no valuable reasons to not offer differents cheeky coverage for men briefs except the fact that major brands are sexists and are unable to change their vision of the double standard



It is very sad because major brands are out of tune with our time whereas they were in advance formerly

Speedo was selling thong swimwear in the 2000 whereas our society was less open minded. In the 2000, they were in advance in their time. Now, they seem to be focused to maintain double standard.



I would like to claim the right to choose how cheeky I want to be, I would like to claim the right to have several cheeky coverage options like women.

Gender equality is also that.
