I always thought calculating a brick wall was mostly about counting bricks, but after helping a friend with a small storage shed project, I realized mortar can make a much bigger difference than I expected.
We measured the wall dimensions and estimated the number of bricks fairly easily. The problem came when we started figuring out the mortar mix and the amount of cement and sand required. Depending on the mortar joint thickness, the material estimates changed quite a bit.
Now I'm wondering how experienced builders handle this. Do you usually calculate mortar separately from the brick count, or do you use some kind of estimation method that includes everything together?
I'm trying to avoid underestimating materials on my next project and would love to hear how others approach it. |
