Sierra Denali transmission clunking when I put it in drive and now I'm just waiting for the tow truck

My 2014 Sierra Denali has been a fantastic workhorse for hauling stuff between my place in Sharjah and the family farm up in Dhaid but the last couple of weeks it's started making this really unsettling clunk when I shift from park into drive and then another one when it downshifts on the highway and the other day I was sitting at a light on Al Ittihad Road and the whole truck lurched forward like I'd been rear ended even though nobody was behind me and my heart just sank because I've heard about the 6L80 transmission issues with the torque converter and the pump stator wearing out prematurely. I took it to a local shop and the guy drained the fluid and showed me the pan which had a nice glittery layer of metal at the bottom and he said it needs a full rebuild or a replacement unit but his shop doesn't do transmission internals and he referred me to some place in Dubai that I just haven't had time to get to. I've been trying to find a more convenient option closer to home and typed in GMC Automatic Gearbox Repair Sharjah to see what comes up because honestly the idea of driving this thing all the way to Al Quoz in its current state with a slipping transmission and the summer heat just around the corner feels like a recipe for getting stranded in the middle of traffic. Anyone on here actually had a 6L80 or a 6L90 rebuilt in Sharjah by a shop that knows these GM trucks and didn't just swap it with a junkyard unit of unknown history.
