The visual landscape of Japan in Forza Horizon 6, with its winding mountain passes and tight neon-lit Tokyo street corners, is the absolute perfect playground for drifting. But if you want to conquer the touge (mountain roads) or dominate the drift zones, you don't need a multi-million-credit hypercar. You need a drift missile—a raw, rear-wheel-drive machine built to be thrashed, scraped, and thrown sideways at triple-digit speeds.
Here is an authentic, no-nonsense guide to building your first high-performance drift missile from scratch, using cold, hard numbers.
Step 1: Picking Your Budget Platform
A true drift missile should be cheap to buy, leaving you plenty of bank for modifications. While the game features ultra-expensive Formula Drift models, building your own is much more satisfying.
For this build, we are skipping the standard choices and going with a solid mid-tier JDM classic: the 1989 Nissan Silvia K's. It sets you back just 40,000 credits at the Autoshow, comes rear-wheel-drive (RWD) from the factory, and has an incredibly predictable short wheelbase.

Step 2: The Parts Shopping List
Once you grab your car, head over to the upgrade shop. To make a car slide effortlessly, you need to alter its mechanical grip, maximize its steering angle, and give it enough power to break traction at will.
For our 40,000-credit Silvia, expect to invest roughly 65,000 to 80,000 credits in the following components:
Platform & Handling: Buy the Drift Spring and Dampers and the Drift Tire Compound immediately. These parts unlock the extreme steering angle and specific tire slip physics required to hold deep angles without spinning out. Upgrading the front and rear Anti-Roll Bars is also non-negotiable for chassis stability.
Drivetrain: Upgrade to a Race Transmission (to customize gear ratios) and a Drift Differential.
Engine Upgrades: Leave the stock engine block but add a Race Turbo, Race Exhaust, and Race Intercooler. For the Silvia K's, aim to push the power output up to roughly 450 to 550 horsepower. This gives you enough grunt to spin the tires in 3rd and 4th gear without making the throttle unmanageable.
Step 3: Base Tuning Numbers That Work
Buying the parts is only half the battle. You need to tune the car to fight its natural instinct to grip the road. Enter the tuning menu and apply this reliable baseline setup:
Alignment (The Secret to Big Angles)
Front Camber: -5.0° (This keeps the leading tire flat on the asphalt when the steering wheel is fully locked).
Rear Camber: -1.5° (Provides just enough forward bite so you don't instantly spin out).
Front Toe: +0.5° (Toe Out) (Makes the steering snappy and eager to initiate a slide).
Front Caster: 7.0° (Gives the car high self-centering steering force).
Differential & Brakes
Differential: Set both Acceleration and Deceleration to 100%. You want the rear axles completely locked together so both tires spin at the exact same speed when power is applied.
Brakes: Shift the braking bias heavily rearward—around 30% Front / 70% Rear—and bump the pressure to 120%. This lets you tap the brakes mid-drift to swing the rear end out further without locking up your steering tires.
Step 4: Putting It to the Test
With your build sitting around an A-Class or low S1-Class rating, it's time to take it to the asphalt.
Turn off Traction Control (TCS) and Stability Control (STM) in your game settings—leaving these on will actively choke the engine whenever the car tries to slide. Put the game into manual shifting. Accelerate up to 3rd gear, approach a wide corner at roughly 65–70 mph, tap the handbrake, and commit to the throttle.
