One of the more interesting mechanics in ARC Raiders is how the game handles downed players. Many new players assume that using a bandage on a teammate or stranger who has been knocked down will revive them, but that is not how the system works.

Instead, bandages are used to stabilize a downed player. This distinction is important because it can completely change how you approach rescue attempts, extraction runs, and encounters with other Raiders.

What Happens When You Use a Bandage on a Downed Player?

When a player is downed in ARC Raiders, they enter a bleed-out state. During this period, they can still crawl around the map, but they are working against a timer. Once that timer expires, the character dies permanently for that raid.

Applying a bandage does not bring the player back to their feet. Rather, it temporarily stabilizes them by stopping or slowing their bleed-out timer. This gives the injured player additional time to move toward safety or reach an extraction point.

For example, imagine a player is knocked down 150 meters away from the nearest extraction elevator. Without assistance, they may only have enough time to crawl part of the distance before bleeding out. If another Raider applies a bandage, the timer is stabilized, allowing them to continue moving. In some situations, multiple bandages may be needed during the journey if the extraction point is far away.

This mechanic creates a unique dynamic where helping someone does not necessarily mean reviving them. Sometimes you are simply buying them a few extra minutes to survive.

Why Stabilization Matters

The stabilization system adds strategic depth to matches.

Let's look at a practical scenario:

A downed player crawls at a significantly slower speed than a healthy Raider. If an extraction point is 100 to 200 meters away, reaching it while bleeding out can be difficult. Stabilization extends their survival window and gives teammates time to clear enemies, scout safe routes, or activate extraction systems.

This is especially valuable in high-risk areas where ARC machines or hostile players are nearby. Instead of attempting a dangerous rescue under fire, players can stabilize the victim first and then focus on securing the area.

The mechanic also encourages cooperation between strangers. Even if you are not grouped together, spending a single bandage can potentially save another player's loot haul and progression.

Bandages vs. Vita Spray

While bandages stabilize a downed player, Vita Spray offers a stronger solution.

According to player testing and community reports, using Vita Spray on a downed Raider restores a larger portion of their stabilization bar. In practical terms, this means they receive considerably more time before bleeding out again.

Suppose a bandage gives enough stabilization for a short crawl toward safety. A Vita Spray can extend that survival window much further, making it particularly useful when extraction is still a long distance away.

Because of this, experienced players often reserve Vita Spray for critical situations while using bandages as an emergency stabilization tool.

How Do You Actually Revive Someone?

This is where many players get confused.

A full revival requires a Defibrillator. If your goal is to get a downed non-squad player back on their feet and fully active again, a bandage will not do the job.

Defibrillators must be crafted and carried into the raid. Since they occupy inventory space and require resources, many players choose not to bring them on every run. As a result, stabilization through bandages is often much more common than full revivals.

This creates an interesting risk-versus-reward decision. Carrying a Defibrillator can save valuable teammates or allies, but it also means sacrificing inventory capacity that could be used for loot.

A Useful Extraction Strategy

One of the most effective uses of bandages involves extraction escorts.

Because downed players can still interact with certain extraction mechanics, including calling elevators and operating extraction consoles, a stabilized player is not completely helpless.

Imagine a solo player gets knocked down near the end of a successful raid after collecting several high-value crafting materials. Another Raider finds them, applies a bandage, and escorts them toward the extraction point. The injured player crawls while the healthy Raider provides protection.

This strategy has become increasingly popular among players who enjoy emergent interactions rather than immediate PvP engagements.

By stabilizing a downed player and slowing their bleed-out timer, bandages create opportunities for rescue, cooperation, and last-second extractions that would otherwise be impossible.

If you want to fully revive a player, you will need a Defibrillator. But when every second counts and extraction is still within reach, a simple bandage can make the difference between losing everything and escaping with valuable loot.
